Hamilton
Caster
& Mfg. Co.
2007
marks the 100th anniver-
sary of Hamilton Caster & Mfg. Co. The company was
founded in 1907 by John Weigel in his garage. John was
the great-grandfather of the company's current management
teamPresident Dave Lippert, Executive Vice President
Steve Lippert, Vice President of Marketing Mark Lippert
and Vice President of Sales Jim Lippert. Only 3% of
family businesses survive to the fourth generation,
but Hamilton Caster has continued to flourish since
the current management took over in 1995 with its broad
line of industrial casters, wheels, carts and trailers.
Originally
established solely as a caster company, Hamilton Caster
added a truck line in 1922 with the purchase of H. Zering
Manufacturing Company, a Cincinnati manufacturer. Since
that time, Hamilton Caster has greatly improved the
quality and scope of products it makes. Today, the company
competes in the global economy through its application
of cutting-edge technology including CNC turning centers
and milling machines, robotic welders and cellular manufac-
turing that enable the company to produce the highest
quality casters, wheels, carts and in-plant trailers
available. Hamilton backs its forged steel casters with
a three-year product guarantee and a lifetime warranty
on the forged-steel kingpins.
In
addition to its broad line of standard products, Hamilton
Caster's extensive manufac-
turing capabilities enable it to manufacture all kinds
of tailor-made products. Hamilton can make special wheels
out of various materials, in unique sizes, and with
special bores and bearings. In addition, the company
can manufacture custom casters with special overall-heights
and offsets. Complete metal and wood fabrication capabilities
allow Hamilton to make many different custom carts and
trailers to meet the unusual requirements of a customer's
unique application. Many of today's standard products
were originally derived from customer special requests.
The
newest addition to Hamilton Caster's product offering
is the Mini Mite, a low-profile, high-capacity caster
useful for a variety of customer applications. Just
6 in. high, the Mini Mite can handle up to 10,000 lbs.
Imagine moving 20 tons on a set of four! More details
on the Mini Mite will be available soon.
Hamilton
Caster management has long understood that fast delivery
is critical. That's why the PRONTO® Quick Ship Service
was initiated in 1968. Today Hamilton can to quick-ship
over 80 percent of the line on a same-day/next-day basis.
Hamilton pledges that PRONTO® orders placed before
noon will ship the same day at no extra cost.
Distributors
prefer doing busi-
ness with Hamilton because their customers will receive
ruggedly designed and well-built products from a manufacturer
that will be around tomorrow. In addition, PRONTO®
Service means that there are no expensive stocking require-
ments. At the end of the day, Hamilton really does furnish
customers the lowest cost in the long run.

Learn the Lessons of the Groundhog
Because it comes
in February, after the new year and before Valentine's Day, Groundhog
Day can sometimes get overlooked. MHEDA Edge, the online
publication for young material handling professionals, doesn't think
that's fair. The February issue is totally devoted to the lessons
of the groundhog, such as forecasting, shadowing and the Hedgehog
Concept. Even the movie Groundhog Day can inspire us, because
much like the film's main character, often times we find ourselves
repeating the same tasks and ending up with the same results. Read
how one distributor helped a customer "rise up from underground."
