Step To The Edge

Remember when you were new to the gases & welding industry? It can be overwhelming trying to learn new product lines and the economics of the industry while at the same time planning your career and making ends meet. These same struggles are facing members of Generations X and Y- today's young executives.

Luckily, these individuals have a tool to assist them. GAWDA Edge is an online publication published monthly by the association with information specifically targeted to serve this demographic. Much like the generations before them, these individuals bring a different set of behaviors and values into the workplace. They are quick to absorb information, familiar with technology, career-motivated and eager to achieve. They are the future of our industry. The more exposure and experience they gain now, the better for everyone.

The magazine is published once per month, with articles pertaining to various topics affecting the gases & welding industry. In addition, each issue includes news from the association and career advice, including how to handle performance appraisals, achieve financial happiness and improve overall job performance. GAWDA Edge is free to members. Make sure your next generation of leaders is taking advantage of all the benefits your GAWDA membership provides you.

Young executives can also benefit from an industry-wide networking opportunity located online at www.gawdaedge.org. Discussion forums give participants a chance to share feedback on articles, offer opinions and discuss industry issues. Registration is required.

2009 GAWDA Profit Report For most firms, 2008 qualifies as a year to file and forget. The financial results for recession years, however, offer some extremely valuable insights into what distinguishes the outstanding firm from the more typical firm. An analysis of the results for 2008, therefore, can be very insightful.

The recently completed 2009 GAWDA financial benchmarking study provides detailed financial and operating benchmarks for the industry. It indicates that many firms struggled to some extent. Some firms, however, continued to prosper despite sales and margin pressures. The differences between the typical firm and the high-profit firm are significant.
