In his speech, Stoneback announced that his theme for the coming year would be “Teamwork,” and introduced his three “all-star teams”: his family, the Metro Welding Supply team and the GAWDA team. Among his goals for the association over the next year will be strengthening board governance, continuing the emphasis on regional meetings, providing high-quality national meetings, building an online training platform for members, and growing the Young Executives program, which, he said, “has gotten off to a great start, and I am confident that it will play a key role in GAWDA’s success going forward.”

Meet "Ms. X"
Leadership Development Committee Chair Whip Seaman announced that Jenny McCall, president of WESCO Gas & Welding Supply in Prichard, AL, will serve as GAWDA’s 2008 1st Vice President, in line to succeed to the presidency in 2010. 2007 President Bob Ames thanked McCall for joining GAWDA’s Executive Committee, and congratulated her for being in position to become GAWDA’s first-ever female president. McCall’s introduction during the Closing Business Session drew thunderous applause.
The youngest of four children, all of whom work in the family business, McCall has served as president of WESCO since 2004, when she succeeded her father, Ron Pierce. She joined GAWDA’s Board of Directors in 2005 as Southeastern Zone Director before being named 2007 Southeastern Zone Vice President.
New Board Elected
Members elected several new people to leadership on GAWDA's Board of Directors: Sam Thompson of Airgas South (Southeastern Zone Director); Ned Lane of Cee Kay Supply (Southwestern Zone Director); Mike Weller of Miller Electric Mfg. Co. (Supplier Member Director); Charles Meisch of Purity Cylinder Gases (Insurance Trustees Committee); and Chris Dominiak of Norco (Management Information Committee).
N. Britt Lovin, vice president and general manager of Andy Oxy Company (Asheville, NC), was elected GAWDA’s President-Elect, in line to become the association’s 2009 President. Lovin most recently served GAWDA as 2006 Southeastern Zone Vice President.

DOT Scam Alert
A GAWDA member received a fax recently in the form of what appeared to be a very official DOT request. In fact, it was a scam asking for bank account information and two signing officer signatures for the company. The cover letter for this looks extremely official and follows the DOT letterhead. Remember, DOT does not ask for bank account information, so be sure not to fall for this scam. If you have seen this scam, or if you have any questions, contact GAWDA DOT & Security Consultant Mike Dodd.
